A group of Hindu priests from Kashmir came to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji for help. The emperor, Aurangzeb, was forcing people to change their religion.
The Guru went to Delhi to stand up for them. He refused to change his own faith and was put to death in 1675. He gave his life for the right of everyone to choose their own religion.

He is called “Hind di Chadar” — the Shield of India. Three of his companions, Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das and Bhai Dayala, were also martyred. Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Delhi stands where he was martyred. Earlier, he founded the town of Anandpur Sahib. His hymns are in Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
