Guru Gobind Singh Ji was a warrior, a poet and a scholar. All four of his sons, the Sahibzade, were martyred: the two older sons died bravely in battle at Chamkaur, and the two youngest, aged just 9 and 6 (or 7), were bricked into a wall at Sirhind for refusing to give up their faith. Before he passed away in 1708 at Nanded, he declared Guru Granth Sahib Ji the eternal Guru.
