Makhan Shah’s ship had been saved in a storm after he prayed and promised 500 gold coins to the Guru. At Bakala, 22 people were pretending to be the Guru! He gave each one just two coins. Only Guru Tegh Bahadur asked for the full 500 he had promised. Makhan Shah climbed onto a roof and shouted, “Guru ladho re!” — “I have found the Guru!”
